FAQs: WRITTEN EXAMS

How big is a Board Stiff Live® Written Review class?
We believe strongly in small group sessions. For our written board courses, we limit the size of each class to 15 candidates per faculty member. You won’t need opera glasses and supersonic hearing for our sessions.
Where do Board Stiff Live® questions come from?
Our questions have been collected through years of experience from hundreds of board certified Anesthesiologists.
Do some of the questions come from the actual Boards?
We are not deaf when people tell us what questions they were given in the exam. However, just like the real Boards, we update and rewrite our questions constantly to keep them up-to-date to reflect the current body of anesthesiology literature. (If anyone claims to have “the list” of Written Board questions, please call the FBI.)
How do Board Stiff LIVE Anesthesia Written Board Review Course sessions work?
We start our sessions by administering 100 board-type questions, ranging from basic physics to pulmonary physiology. Every sub-specialty is covered, including emerging topics (such as TEE for the non-cardiac anesthesiologist, ultrasound-guided line placement and regional anesthesia techniques, simulation, and patient safety), which are all fair game on the real exam. After the exam, a faculty member will go over the questions with the class. He or she will review the answers, offer explanations, provide references for further reading, and answer your questions…so that you will know not only the right answer to any particular question, but also you will know why it is the right answer.
But I could buy a review book and have the same experience, right?
Wrong!

At Board Stiff LIVE Anesthesia Written Board Review Course, our success is built on personalized teaching. Unlike some courses, held in auditoriums the size of Rockefeller Center, at Board Stiff Live®, our small group sessions encourage participation.

Is there any time for lectures?
During each answer and explanation session, we are happy to discuss a topic. We can usually tell which topics need to be discussed, as they are usually those that evoke the “deer in the headlights” looks. Our vast experience, along with our academic and clinical expertise, makes this possible.
What will I really learn at a Board Stiff LIVE Anesthesia Written Board Review Course?
Well, that depends on what you don’t already know. Look, you already took an exam similar to the Boards, right? It’s called the ABA In-Training Exam. Hopefully, you have continued to read and keep up with the things you need to know as a professional from year to year. However, there are always those questions that continue to nag at you. There are multiple answers that you have lingered over, time and time again. At Board Stiff LIVE, we help you learn to examine the fundamental question asked, then provide the answer the ABA hopes you will give them.
What makes Board Stiff Live® the best course in the industry?
In a nutshell, it is because of our unparalleled, small group size. This single factor allows us to present a truly intensive, “hyper learning” environment that encourages questions, discussion, and feedback. Realistically, no course can impart the knowledge of three or four years of study in a single weekend. But our course truly packs more into the weekend than any other…because of the individual attention given to each participant.
Where are the courses held?
At this time, Board Stiff Live® Anesthesia Written Review courses are held in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, New York City, Chicago, Nashville, Houston, Atlanta, and in our home base in Fort Lauderdale/Miami.
What is the cost of the course?
The weekend course is $1,295. Included in the price of the course is your very own copy of the Board Stiff LIVE® Written Review Book, written by Chris Gallagher, MD; Lebron Cooper, MD; and Richard Silverman, MD. The Review Book contains over 1,000 questions and answers. It also included additional explanations and references, so you can read and study more when you return home. Students repeating the course will receive a $300 discount ($995). Full payment is required upon registration.
What if I need to cancel? What is your policy on cancellations?
Registration for the written course may be cancelled, without question, prior to the start of the course for a full refund.
Are there any discounted offers?
There are discounts for graduates of University of Miami (FL), Stonybrook University (NY), and Ochsner Health System Anesthesiology Residency Programs (LA), since the instructors are current or former faculty members in these institutions. Current contracted employees of Alliance Recruiting Resources will have their tuition reimbursed by Alliance upon presentation of receipt of payment to Board Stiff, Inc. For those who may wish to have their tuition paid for, Alliance Recruiting Resources will refund the tuition of anyone who signs an agreement to contract anesthesiology services with them in the future. Please see our Alliance reference page or contact Alliance Recruiting directly for further information.
Do I get anything else for my tuition?
Well, now that you mention it, we do provide lunch on Saturday during the course. (And you’ll get a bunch of swag, too…you know, the stuff Pharma Guidelines won’t let drug companies give away anymore.)
What about hotel arrangements?
Lodging arrangements are ultimately your responsibility. The courses are held in conveniently located hotels in each city. We can also provide a list of alternative hotels nearby upon request.
